Yesterday I received some disappointing news in regards to my book The Tethered World: IT’S NOT PERFECT!
Oh, wait, I already knew that. In fact, as I read the book to my family (because I’ve been a mean mother and made them wait until the book was in hand), I’ve been disappointed with things I did not ‘catch’ in the proofreading process.
But none of those problems were as upsetting as what I learned yesterday.
Somehow, the book’s printer had an older file and ALL my paperback books contain a handful of editorial comments within the body of the manuscript. Ugh! Things like “excellent insight”, “good”, and “excellent suspense here” are still sitting in the storyline for all to see. (As one friend pointed out…at least they are “positive” remarks!).
My publisher was as horrified as me to learn of this glitch. It had been addressed months ago, or so we thought. There’s no way to track down the reason this file ended up being used. All we can do is get it corrected and try to spread the word. *sigh*
So…my apologies to you if you have one of these first edition, blooper books. On the upside, if I become the next CS Lewis, these imperfect editions will be worth a ton of money 😉
Just don’t hold your breath waiting on that turn of events!
Ultimately, I’m glad God is not caught off guard, the way I was. He is good and gracious and will take care of this unfortunate turn of events. And this is quite the “first world” problem in the broader scheme of life, so I’m trying to brush it off and be thankful for all the terrific things that have happened in regards to the book.
Have you ever had something devastating happen that you were helpless to prevent? How did you handle it? What was the collateral damage or hidden blessing that came from it?
